About Me

BILL BOXER
A JOURNEY THROUGH EVERY DAY

ARTIST STATEMENT

The Sound of Color, The Shape of Music

As a pianist and photographer, my artistry exists between two worlds, one shaped by sound, the other by color. For me, these worlds are not separate. They blend, influence, and complement each other in ways that feel inseparable.

I have synesthesia, where sound and color become one. Music is never just something I hear, it is something I see. This perception translates into my photography, where color and form interact.

The images in Close to Home are not just visual studies of nature. They are compositions of color and form that resonate like music. My self-portrait in this catalog reflects this relationship—two expressions of one artist, shaped by sound and sight. Music and Art.

ABOUT ME

"Seeing the world through the eye of the camera has always been a passion. It is my permanent record of how I see people, places, and nature." Bill Boxer

Though widely recognized as a musician and pianist, Bill Boxer has been a lifelong photographer. His artistic journey began in New York, growing up in the shadows of Bronx Park, Bronx Zoo and Botanical Gardens. At the age of ten, a camera, gifted on his birthday, opened his eyes to a new world of artistic expression. With the zoo and park trails just a short walk away, nature became his first subject, providing endless opportunities to experiment with light and composition. From those early moments, a lifelong passion for photography and music took root.

Throughout his life, Bill has used photography to document world landscapes, architecture, cultures, and people. His work captured the beauty of distant places. As time and circumstances evolved, so did his artistic vision. The 2020 pandemic brought a profound shift, prompting him to look closer, to find beauty in the everyday and to celebrate the subtle details of the world just outside his door. His lens now focuses on the evolving landscapes and microcosms within reach, revealing new perspectives in familiar spaces.

Currently, Bill serves as the Executive Director of The Saint Augustine Music Festival, one of the most celebrated free classical and chamber music festivals in the United States. Despite his deep involvement in the festival, he remains committed to his photographic journey, camera in hand, always searching for the next fleeting moment to preserve.
